Data from the ESA CCI Fire project ---------------------------------- The ESA Fire Climate Change Initiative (CCI) dataset collection version 3.1 consists of maps of global burned areas for years 2006 to 2008, developed from satellite observations. The products are based upon spectral information from the Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS), on board the ENVISAT ESA satellite and thermal information from the MODIS active fires product. Two products are provided: - Pixel product (approx. 300 m resolution) - Grid product (0.5 degree resolution) For information on the products and their layers, please refer to the Product User Guide (http://www.esa-fire-cci.org/webfm_send/760) Also, an article entitled "A new global burned area product for climate assessment of fire impacts", presents the methods for generating the global BA product, along with a comparison with other existing BA products in terms of BA extension, fire size and shapes and emissions derived from biomass burnings. The article is freely available at http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/geb.12440/abstract. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PLEASE NOTICE THAT THIS VERSION OF THE BA PRODUCTS HAS BEEN SUPERSEEDED BY VERSION 4.1. The new v4.1 product includes a larger temporal series (2005 - 2011) and a 0.25 degree gridded product, amongst other improvements. This new version is being validated and assessed by the climate modellers. The new Fire_cci BA product v4.1 can be downloaded from https://geogra.uah.es/fire_cci.
